This step allows us to clearly define the scope of the project from a page count perspective, but it also enables us to see in a hierarchical fashion the complete site.  Basically, what comes before what.   The sitemap is a text-based representation of all the pages and links that will exist once the web site has been designed and programmed. As the client, you’ll use the sitemap to be sure all necessary content areas are covered.  The designer will use it as a framework for the interface design.  And the programmer will use it as the road map or blueprint for the production of the web site.
