Search engine optimization is the process by which a website is made visible and relevant to search engines, for the purpose of increased volume and quality of traffic. Primarily, optimizing a website is done by editing the text and html code to increase its relevance by the use of specific keywords and phrases. (With me so far?!)  It’s also important to ensure the site does not contain any barriers that would restrict search engines from being able to index the site properly. There: that’s a very simple answer to a fairly complex and involved task.
