Like an athlete surveying the playing field, we need to know who’s on the other team. What are they doing right? Can we do it better? Where are their weaknesses, and how can we exploit those weaknesses? We need to know who the competition is, what are they doing right and how can we do it better? (Don’t you love a good sports analogy?!)
The internet has produced many profound impacts, but none more powerful then this: it’s effectively leveled the business playing field. No longer does the company with the biggest ad budget always come out on top. The internet has also made it easier then ever to see what your competition is up to. You can buy their product or test their service with an anonymity that didn’t exist in the ‘old’ way of marketing. And of course, this knowledge is your power.
